Post Autumn - Columbia Fields
By Alan | November 18, 2008
Autumn has come and gone and another winter is upon us. In October, a new Tides Records project was released: Kevin Howard - Far From Grace. To hear tracks from this release, you can visit Kevin’s myspace page. Kevin and I had worked through the late spring and the entire summer to complete Kevin’s first EP of solo material. The EP includes 6 songs, ranging from hard rockers to acoustic ballads and Kevin sings his ass off on every tune!
I also traveled San Francisco, CA in early October for the Audio Engineering Society’s annual convention of new recording gear and equipment. Telefunken USA was nominated for a TEC Award (Technical Excellence and Creativity) for Microphone Technology and won! The ELA M 260 was selected as the best microphone of the year and I accepted the award for the company, along with owner Toni Fishman, in front of packed house of audio industry professionals, including artist Robert Plant and Allison Kraus. In early October I also began tracking the new full length album from Connecticut band Columbia Fields. I am acting as chief engineer and producer on the project. The tunes are great and the band fits sonically on the same pallet as John Mayer and the Counting Crows. We are currently in the vocal tracking stages and we are planning to have the album complete before the end of the year. This will be my first full length recording since the release of the Mile Marker Zero album earlier this year.

On Halloween day, piano player Eric Heath and I traveled to Carriage House Studios in Stamford, CT to track on their fantastic grand piano. The studio had such a killer vibe and Eric played his ass off on all the tracks. While the grand piano was great, we are scheduled to record more piano on the smaller upright at Telefunken studios later this week. The band is definitely very piano driven and their sound is heavily based off of Eric’s playing style
Rane has also be prepping and rehearsing new music for full length record. No release date has been set, but the band plans on finally putting down some material mid winter.
Have a great Thanksgiving
